Darren Haar is a seasoned business executive, investor, and community leader with deep roots in Rapid City. With a degree in chemical engineering from the University of New Mexico, he built a distinguished career at DuPont, rising to Global Business Director for Microcircuit Materials and leading international teams across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. His work included overseeing business units, acquisitions, and several global joint ventures.
After retiring from DuPont in 2012, Darren returned to the Black Hills with a focus on strengthening the regional economy. He has been instrumental in launching and leading multiple angel investment funds and currently serves as Chair of the Black Hills Regional Angel Fund. He also mentors innovators as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and has held leadership roles with the Enterprise Institute, the South Dakota REACH Committee, and Elevate Rapid City.
Darren’s civic involvement extends to broader community efforts, including service on the Rapid City Regional Airport Board and participation in local housing and development initiatives. In 2016, he received the Spirit of Enterprise Award for his contributions to entrepreneurship and economic growth. Today, he continues to support the region through investment, mentorship, and development projects that help drive long-term economic diversification.
