Ribbon Cutting: Abbott House

Abbott House Youth Services Opens Two New Foster Homes in Rapid City

Published Friday, June 26, 2026

There was a feeling of hope and purpose in the air as community members, supporters, and local partners gathered with Abbott House Youth Services to celebrate the opening of two new intensive foster homes on Isaac Street in Rapid City.

Located at 328 and 201 Isaac Street, the homes were created to provide safe, family-style spaces for youth who have experienced trauma and adversity. Each home will serve up to six boys or six girls with high behavioral and emotional needs, giving them not just a place to stay, but a place where they can feel supported, cared for, and encouraged to grow.

For Abbott House Youth Services, the ribbon cutting also marked another chapter in a mission that has been serving South Dakota children and families for 86 years.

Since opening its first intensive foster home in Rapid City in 2015, Abbott House has continued expanding its reach and impact across western South Dakota. Today, the organization operates six intensive foster homes in Rapid City and recently acquired WellFully, now known as Abbott House West. Together, their services create a statewide continuum of care for youth ages 1–21 through intensive foster care, psychiatric residential treatment, independent living support, addiction recovery, and crisis care. Abbott House now serves more than 400 South Dakota children each year.

“We are proud to be part of the Rapid City community and to provide a safe place to hope, heal, and grow for South Dakota youth,” Beth-Anne Ferley, Abbott House Assistant Development Director shared. “Rapid City has been incredibly supportive of Abbott House Youth Services, and we are grateful to partner with local businesses, organizations, and individuals who care deeply about children and families. Together, we are creating brighter futures for young people who have experienced trauma and adversity.”

The opening of these homes is a meaningful investment in both children and community. By creating spaces where young people can feel safe, valued, and supported, Abbott House Youth Services continues to make a lasting difference for families across South Dakota and help build a stronger future for Rapid City.
