Bluepeak is accelerating its investment in South Dakota’s digital future with plans for an additional $150 million, multi-year expansion of its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network, placing Rapid City at the center of one of the largest private broadband upgrades in the state’s history.

The expansion builds on more than $95 million already invested to deliver 100% FTTH connectivity to approximately 55,000 residents and businesses in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Vermillion, and surrounding communities. Once complete, Bluepeak’s network will reach more than 175,000 residents and businesses statewide, delivering faster speeds, greater reliability, and increased capacity.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure

In addition to expanding fiber access, Bluepeak has enhanced its multi-state backbone network, increased capacity to major internet peering locations, and upgraded regional and metro fiber systems, positioning South Dakota communities to meet growing digital demands across business, healthcare, education, and remote work.

“Access to world-class broadband is essential to economic growth,” said Rich Fish, CEO of Bluepeak. “This next phase represents our continued commitment to South Dakota and to ensuring our customers have the connectivity they need to thrive.”

Confidence in Rapid City’s Growth

Local leaders say the investment reflects confidence in Rapid City’s long-term trajectory.

“It’s great to see Bluepeak investing in infrastructure in South Dakota,” said Tom Johnson, CEO of Elevate Rapid City. “As Rapid City continues to grow, the need for broadband services will also continue to diversify. This shows a recognition of the long-term positive trends in where we are going as a state.”

Community Impact Beyond Connectivity

Bluepeak’s investment extends beyond infrastructure. The company supports cultural, civic, and economic initiatives across the state, including partnerships with The Monument in Rapid City, USD Athletics, Sanford Children’s Hospital, and local organizations in Box Elder, Spearfish, Watertown, and Yankton.

For Rapid City and South Dakota, the expansion signals continued momentum and the importance of modern infrastructure in supporting long-term economic growth.
