For 60 years, Youth & Family Services (YFS) has proudly served children and their families in western South Dakota, providing them with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to thrive. From its beginnings as the Girls Club of Rapid City in 1965, YFS has grown into a comprehensive nonprofit serving more than 14,000 children and families across 31 counties in western South Dakota.
YFS remains dedicated to meeting the needs of girls through its Girls Inc. program, but now also offers eight additional programs that provide a wide range of services that touch nearly every stage of life for kids. From child care and early education to after-school and teen programs, counseling, nutrition support, and prevention services, YFS programs all share the same mission: to support children and their families in being capable, caring, and contributing members of the community.
What makes YFS different is the personal approach it brings to every service. Families aren’t just numbers, they’re neighbors, students, and future leaders. Whether it’s helping a child discover a love for learning, giving parents new tools to strengthen relationships, or offering a safe place during difficult times, YFS creates meaningful connections that strengthen the whole community.
YFS’ roots run deep in Rapid City and across western South Dakota. Over the years, the organization has built a strong foundation of community support, with donors, volunteers, and local partners playing an essential role in its work. Fundraising events hosted by YFS not only raise critical dollars but also highlight the power of people coming together to support their communities' youth.
At its heart, YFS is about helping children and their families build brighter futures. By investing in YFS, community members are investing in the health, well-being, and potential of the next generation.
