Midwest Heart and Vascular Associates is an independent cardiovascular practice based in Rapid City, dedicated to delivering accessible, high-quality heart, vascular and venous care to the community. Founded and led by Dr. Bhaskar Purushottam, an internationally recognized, board-certified and fellowship-trained Interventional Cardiologist and Vascular Specialist, the practice brings world-class cardiovascular expertise to the region. With advanced training across India, New Zealand, and the United States, and holding eight board certifications, Dr. Purushottam has served the Rapid City community for over a decade. Recognizing the rising burden of cardiovascular and vascular disease and gaps in timely access to care, he established Midwest Heart and Vascular Associates to meet these needs head-on.
His practice includes:
- A comprehensive clinic where patients are evaluated and treated directly by Dr. Purushottam.
- A state-of-the-art imaging center to expedite accurate diagnosis.
- The region’s first Peripheral Outpatient-Based Lab (OBL)—a specialized facility for performing minimally invasive endovascular procedures for peripheral arterial and venous diseases without the need for hospital admission.
In the clinic, patients partner with Dr. Purushottam in shared decision-making to create a personalized treatment plan. Cardiovascular testing is offered in-house, reducing delays in diagnosis and improving outcomes. The OBL allows for cutting-edge procedures to restore circulation in the legs, arms, and other vascular territories—safely, efficiently, and close to home. The practice treats a gamut of vascular and venous diseases, which often present as leg pain, leg swelling, lower extremity wounds, varicose veins, strokes and coronary artery disease, manifesting as chest pain, angina and weak heart.
Since opening in April 2025, Midwest Heart and Vascular Associates has already served approximately 200 patients, helping address long-standing wait times for cardiovascular evaluations, testing, and treatment. Dr. Purushottam sees patients within 7 to 14 business days of referral, significantly reducing delays in care.
By shifting outpatient procedures to his clinic, Dr. Purushottam also aims to relieve the burden on local hospitals—reserving those critical resources for the most complex and acutely ill patients.
This region has among the highest rates of non-traumatic amputations due to peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a condition affecting over 20 million Americans. Dr. Purushottam is committed to early identification and evidence-based treatment of PAD to prevent these life-altering complications.
