Monument Health has broken ground on its newest health care project in Rapid City—the Mall Drive Campus—a major step forward in expanding access to emergency care along the growing Interstate 90 corridor.
The one-story, 16,750 sq. ft. facility will house a free-standing Emergency Department designed to bring high-quality care closer to where people live and work. Once complete, the site will feature full laboratory services, X-ray and CT scan capabilities, a trauma room, eight emergency exam rooms, two inpatient rooms, and a covered ambulance garage.
“As emergency medicine specialists, we’re excited to bring the same level of expert care available at Rapid City Hospital to this new location,” said Dr. Brook Eide, Emergency Department Chair. “This facility will allow us to provide critical emergency services to more patients, closer to where they live and work.”
Headquartered in Rapid City, Monument Health is the region’s largest employer, with over 5,600 physicians and caregivers across 14 communities in western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. A proud member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, Monument Health continues to invest in infrastructure that supports its mission to “Make a Difference. Every Day.”
According to Monument Health President and CEO Paulette Davidson, the Mall Drive site is built with future growth in mind. “This location and facility allow Monument Health space and infrastructure to continue growing to meet the needs of our community,” she said. Plans for phased expansion could include additional stories and up to 20 more inpatient rooms, should the demand arise.
Elevate Rapid City was honored to join Monument Health leadership, Scull Construction, project partners, and community stakeholders to celebrate the start of construction. Supporting groundbreaking moments like this is core to Elevate’s mission to foster a thriving business climate and a stronger regional economy.
With construction now underway, the Mall Drive Campus is expected to open in Summer 2026—reinforcing Monument Health’s commitment to building a healthier region for generations to come.
