Black Hills State University-Rapid City (BHSU-RC) offers Rapid City students and professionals flexible, affordable pathways to achieve their academic and career goals. Established as a second location for BHSU in 2015, BHSU-RC provides a variety of academic programs that can be completed in Rapid City.

Academic programs available at BHSU-RC include Bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, and Business Administration with specializations in Accounting and Management. Associate’s degrees offered include Applied Health Sciences (Pre-Nursing), Business Administration, General Studies, and Human Services.

BHSU-RC is home to West River Health Science Center (WRHSC), a partnership between BHSU, SDSU, WRAHEC, and Monument Health, that offers one of the best pathways to a nursing degree in the Black Hills. Students complete their pre-nursing degree at BHSU-RC before seamlessly transitioning into the SDSU Nursing Program in Rapid City. Construction is currently underway to expand WRHSC's nursing facilities, with completion expected by the end of the year.

BHSU-RC provides a range of on-site student resources, including tutoring and testing centers, along with full access to all BHSU-wide resources such as Career Services.

The BHSU-RC facility also offers versatile meeting spaces for training sessions, seminars, workshops, and conferences. The 59,000-square-foot campus includes 33 multi-functional rooms, accommodating groups from 8 to 100—ideal for professional and educational gatherings. Rooms can be reserved online at BHSU.edu/RapidCity.
