Papyrus & Indigo is an independent art studio run by Angel Dominiq, with a primary focus on Fibre Arts. From the art studio she designs and makes woven vessels, wall sculpture, pendant lighting and interior fixtures for residential and commercial spaces.

She has passed on her passion for contemporary basket making techniques in workshops. Weaving in elements from the natural world and other sustainable materials are a huge part of this Fiber Arts Practice.

Angel has 20 plus years of experience. She can take a project right through from initial concept development to being present onsite for installation. Each project is carefully considered, innovative, embued with her passionate designs and always delivered on time.

She loves doing business in Rapid City because this is an open field for teaching others about the importance of using natural and recycled resources.

This year, 2024, Papyrus & Indigo introduced two new products. Keeping in line with paper works, the business is designing and creating sketchbook journals. All of the sketchbook journal pages are made with a heavy weight, 100% cotton watercolor paper. In most cases the covers are made with an even heavier weight, 100% cotton watercolor paper. Each cover is individually designed with various handmade papers and or fabric to create a collage. Other covers will be designed with a miniature woven piece of art. These sketchbook journals are hand bound with waxed linen thread. Each sketchbook journal includes an assortment of mainly crystal and or ceramic beads for embellishing. The average sizes are 6” x 6” and 3½” x 5”. Photo Albums can be special ordered. The average size for those are 8” x 8”.

What makes these sketchbook journals so special is they all come with a photo of the person that it will belong to. If it is a special order the cover design can include the recipient’s favorite color(s).

The other product created is notebooks. These notebooks have a much simpler binding process. The paper weight is not as heavy as the sketchbook journals. They are also made with 100% cotton watercolor paper. Each of these covers are individually designed as well. The average size for these are 3½” x 6”.

All of the watercolor papers are suitable for mixed media.

The sketchbook journals were created with purpose. That purpose was for the recipient to be blessed by using it. It can be used as a prayer or gratitude journal and perhaps for taking notes after meditation or for doodling. But she knew that by creating these that it was going to be for a very special person. As soon as she found out that a relative of a friend of hers delivered her baby she was moved to design a sketchbook journal for the mom and she gifted it to her. That baby was the result of the mom being taken advantage of. That situation brought tears to her eyes. For situations like this is why her Sketchbook Journals were born.
