Celebrating 30 Years of the Rapid City Public Schools Foundation

Published Wednesday, July 10, 2024 5:00 am

The Rapid City Public Schools Foundation recently commemorated its 30th anniversary with an Elevate Rapid City ribbon cutting ceremony hosted at HomeSlice Media. This event marked three decades of dedication to enriching public education in Rapid City, showcasing the Foundation's significant contributions and ongoing commitment.

A Legacy of Support and Growth

Established in 1994, the Rapid City Public Schools Foundation has consistently pursued public and private donations to foster innovative educational methods and expand the potential of educational tax dollars. Over the past 30 years, the Foundation has granted over $1 Million to the Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS), funding experiences, trainings, supplies, and technology that would not have been possible otherwise.

The Foundation's inception was marked by nearly $250,000 in donations and mutual funds pledged by individuals, local businesses, and anonymous donors. This endowment has ensured that the Foundation's operational costs are covered, allowing 100% of all funds raised to be allocated directly to grants.

Sara Hornick, Executive Director of the Rapid City Public Schools Foundation, announced an ambitious goal: to raise $30,000 in the 30 days of June to honor the 30th anniversary. "Our goal is to award $30,000 in grants to Rapid City area schools to commemorate 30 years of supporting public education," said Hornick. “Your contribution will help us achieve our mission to enhance and enrich the educational experience of students, recognize and inspire those who guide student learning, and increase community support for public education,” emphasized Hornick.”
