In Session 8, the Elevate Leadership Institute (ELI) explored authentic leadership, emphasizing the importance of genuine connection and self-awareness in influencing others. Held at The Rushmore Hotel on April 11th, ELI participants submersed themselves in stimulating discussions, practical workshops, and motivating presentations.
ELI aims to empower participants with the tools and insights necessary to lead authentically in real-world scenarios. From leading change to fostering excellence, the session aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, equipping the class with tools to apply leadership skills in their professional endeavors confidently.
One highlight of the day was the series of TED-style talks delivered by local leaders, including Brian Maruska (SoDak Marketing), Marnie Herrmann (Security First Bank), Ruth Kopp (PMI Black Hills & Kopp Shop Creative), and Dr. Steve Maser (Monument Health Orthopedic Hospital).

Their stories resonated with participants, reinforcing that mindfulness and collaboration are essential in authentic, effective leadership.
One participant revealed their takeaway from the session: "Being a remarkable leader doesn't require being the most intelligent person in the room; rather, it demands self-awareness to recognize one's strengths and weaknesses, and the willingness to collaborate with others to achieve a common goal."
Another key takeaway from the session was the realization that authentic leadership is not about conforming to a specific mold but embracing one's personality and leveraging personal strengths to inspire and influence others.

"As a leader, I've always felt that it's essential to infuse my personality and expressiveness into daily interactions," added another ELI participant about what they learned from the session, "Otherwise, what impact am I really making? I can brighten someone's day, inspire them to succeed, and unite a group towards a common purpose."
To wrap up the day, the ELI Class retook their EQ-i Post Assessment to assess how they have evolved emotionally since beginning their Elevate Leadership Institute journeys.
ELI Session 8 added a valuable layer to participants' learning journey, reinforcing the importance of authenticity in leadership and providing practical strategies for incorporating authentic leadership practices into their professional lives.
