Wednesday, November 2023, the Elevate Rapid City Key Ceremony marked the warm welcome and celebration of the newest tenants at the DLAB. Elevate Rapid City CEO and President Tom Johnson extended his gratitude to today's Key Ceremony attendees. Johnson also acknowledged and thanked representatives from the City, County, Elevate Board members, and federal delegates whose contributions made the DLAB a reality.

Lori Frederick, Elevate Rapid City's Senior Director of Economic Development, took center stage to introduce and present awards to the five new companies joining Elevate Rapid City inside the DLAB.
The companies honored in the Key Ceremony include:
Daktronics

A global leader in LED video displays, Daktronics was founded in 1968 by South Dakota State University engineering professors Aelred Kurtenbach and Duane Sander. Now a world-leading manufacturing operation, Daktronics has facilities in Sioux Falls, SD; Redwood Falls, MN; Ireland; and China.
Driven Fire Consultants
Founded by Jared Van Gammeren in Sioux Falls, SD, Driven Fire Consultants is a design and consulting firm specializing in fire sprinkler systems. Their mission is not only to provide code-compliant and cost-effective fire protection solutions but also to offer excellent customer service.
KLJ Engineering
Celebrating 85 years, KLJ Engineering provides diversified professional consulting services. Their Rapid City office, founded in 2000, employs nearly 35 professionals committed to delivering great infrastructure projects to the Rapid City and surrounding areas.
Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF)
SURF, America's deep underground science laboratory, conducts cutting-edge research in physics, geology, biology, and engineering. With over 2,000 collaborators worldwide, SURF is vital in inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals.
Midwest Lithium
Although not present, Midwest Lithium's Black Hills Project promises exciting developments in lithium exploration, strategically located in the heart of the U.S.
City Councilman Pat Roseland read a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Jason Salamun to solidify the day's significance. Following this, Dillon Matuska shared exciting news about the DLAB. Elevate Rapid City received a Build to Scale Grant from the Economic Development Administration, enabling the launch of a mentorship program for up to 30 local entrepreneurs.
Lastly, Lori Frederick congratulated the new tenants, expressing excitement for the growth of their companies. Before enjoying the lunch provided by Jersey Mike's and beverages donated by Coca-Cola, attendees participated in a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, representing the new companies' official welcome.
