Elevate Leadership Institute (ELI) - Navigating Change and Cultivating Leadership

Published Thursday, November 2, 2023 10:00 am

The 24 ELI participants dove into the dynamics of intercultural competence and emotional intelligence during their interactive and engaging second session. Throughout the session, they networked, had their class photo taken, and participated in workshops, all while going over lots of exciting curriculum. Here's a recap of their key takeaways:

Leadership and Change:

They discussed how leaders can make things better by making changes in organizations and looked at examples like Elon Musk, whose leadership style contrasts with Jan Singer's, whose story about the importance of being flexible in leadership resonated with participants.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ):

Next, they explored the idea of emotional intelligence (EQ) and how it complements IQ, demonstrating both are essential for a balance between personal and professional growth. They even utilized the EQ-12.0 model to categorize emotional intelligence into five areas, including self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and stress management.

Understanding Different Cultures:

Finally, the class talked about the importance of understanding different cultures. Each person took the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment, a holistic and developmental tool that helps individuals and groups navigate cultural differences.

After the session, everyone was enthusiastic about future discussions where they will reflect more on what they've learned thus far and will continue growing as leaders. Take advantage of future recaps of upcoming sessions, and keep an eye out for ELI applications next year!
