Published Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Sharon (Sherry) Scudder, a dependable, kind, and very important volunteer at Elevate Rapid City, is being honored as the Helpline Center of the Black Hills May 2023 Volunteer of the Month! At 75 years old and as a retired Executive Director of Housing for 43 years, Sherry continues to make significant contributions throughout Rapid City. Not only has she volunteered her time to Elevate Rapid City by warmly greeting and assisting customers, answering phones, and brightening the overall office environment, she also actively serves as a bailiff for the Pennington County 7th Judicial Court System and a Visit Rapid City Ambassador.

As a passionate individual advocating to help those experiencing homelessness, Sherry acted as a past Chair of the Pennington County Housing and Redevelopment Commission, a past Advisory Board Member of Rapid City Affordable Housing Trust Fund Committee, and is currently a committee member for the Homeless Veterans and Youth Advisory. In addition to her mentioned and many more unmentioned accomplishments, Sherry loves crafting personalized greeting cards in her spare time to make those around her feel special. She has made cards for four Kiwanis Clubs and sends her cards all over the world.

To thank her for her meaningful contributions to our community, Sherry received a Volunteer of the Month Certificate from the Helpline Center of the Black Hills, a letter from Mayor Allender, and a Volunteer of the Month Sign to display in front of her home.
