Month of the Military Child: April 2022
Published Thursday, March 31, 2022 7:00 pm
The Black Hills is the proud home of Ellsworth Air Force Base and South Dakota National Guard's Camp Rapid. As of December 31, 2019, there are more than 8500 military children in our community. These kids often sacrifice the opportunity to have their parents at a concert, sporting event, birthday party, and more. Being a part of "Purple Up" is a great opportunity to recognize and honor their unique contributions and sacrifices.
Black Hills Wire has compiled a great list of ways the Rapid City and surrounding area businesses can participate and show their support. We can't wait to see how you #PaintTheHillsPurple!
Ways your business can participate to celebrate the month of the military child:
1. Join the Paint The Hills Purple window paint challenge.
As a visual representation of our support for these tough kids, join us in painting the Hills purple! During the month of April, Black Hills Wire is encouraging businesses throughout the Hills to add a little color to their windows. Get creative and get to painting! Windows will be judged by kids from Ellsworth Air Force Base and the winner will be recognized at the end of the month. Take a picture and share it on social media using the hashtag #PaintTheHillsPurple to be entered.
2. Do you have an exterior sign that includes an interchangeable message? Change your message for the month!
3. Offer a food item that is a shade of purple? Grape flavored? Ice cream? Have a special promotion around it!
4. Wear purple every Friday.
5. Retail store? Have a special discount on purple items or for military families!
6. Attraction? Have a special discount for military families or select one night in April to do a special event just for them!
7. On social media? Make your page purple! Switch your cover photo, make a special purple logo for the month, share with your followers!
