A lifelong West River rancher who served in both the SD House and Senate, Rhoden is running on a platform that includes property tax reform, increased business investment, and improved educational outcomes.

About the Speaker:

Governor Larry Rhoden

 Larry Rhoden, a lifelong West River rancher, is South Dakota's 34th Governor. He served six years in the South Dakota National Guard, carrying on a family legacy of military service that began in the Revolutionary War, and has been active in his church and local school board.

Larry served in both the South Dakota House and Senate, earning election by his peers as House Majority Leader. He was elected lieutenant governor alongside Kristi Noem in 2018, re-elected in 2022, and rose to the governorship in January 2025. As a legislator and governor, he's worked on property tax reform, agriculture policy, and defending South Dakotans' 2nd Amendment rights.

Larry still does custom welding and operates the ranch where he was born and raised. He and his wife, Sandy, have four sons and ten grandchildren.
