Rapid City voters are being asked to approve a $107 million bond issue in November. The School District says their plan prioritizes responsible growth, school safety, repairing or replacing aging building systems, and will generate long-term cost savings across the district. Rapid City voters have not approved a bond issue in over 50 years and bond proponents say the situation is becoming critical.

About the Speaker:

Steve Allender

Steve Allender grew up in Belle Fourche & moved to Rapid City in 1985. He began a 29-year career at the Rapid City Police Department, rising through the ranks to eventually serve as Chief of Police from 2007 to 2014. Allender was elected Mayor of Rapid City in 2015 and served in that role until he retired in 2023. His community work also includes service on the boards of Working Against Violence Inc. (WAVI), the Midwest Organized Crime Information Center, and committee or advisory positions with the Community Relations Council, Western Dakota Technical Institute, Pennington County Emergency Management, City/County Drug and Alcohol Programs, and Black Hills Mental Health/Substance Abuse Systems Change Collaborative, among others.
