Details
National defense has always been part of South Dakota's identity. But in the past few months, it has moved to the front burner in a major way.
In his January State of the State address, Governor Rhoden declared national security South Dakota's "next big industry," launched the GRIT task force, and followed up in April with the creation of the South Dakota Defense Institute, investing $1 million with Elevate Rapid City to help purchase a building in our Innovation District to serve as the Institute's headquarters.
June's Critical Issues Luncheon will dig into what all of this means for our community. We'll hear from military, academic, and economic development leaders at the forefront of this shift and explore what South Dakota's expanding role in national security means for our businesses, our workforce, and our region's future.
Joining us on the panel:
- Jack Valentine | Operations Division Director, SD Governor's Office of Economic Development
- Mary Bell, Ph.D. | Dean, The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences, Dakota State University
- Major General Mark Morrell | 23rd Adjutant General, South Dakota National Guard & Vice Chair of the GRIT Task Force
Registration closes at end of day on June 2.
