As the 2026 legislative session comes to a close, there's no better time to hear directly from those in the room. Black Hills Forum and Press Club brings together Representative Mike Derby, Senator Helene Duhamel, and Representative Nicole Uhre-Balk for a moderated conversation on the bills, decisions, and debates that will shape our community in the months ahead.

This is your opportunity to gain firsthand insight into what happened at the Capitol and what it means for the Black Hills region.

Whether you're a business owner, community leader, or engaged citizen, this event is open to all who want to stay informed and connected to the decisions impacting our region.

Helene Duhamel - Senate District 32

Nicole Uhre-Balk - House District 32

Nicole Uhre-Balk is a South Dakota State Representative serving District 32 in Rapid City. She has taught along Interstate 90 from Washington State to South Dakota to Massachusetts and brings more than a decade of experience in biology, computer science, and 21st-century learning. She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Black Hills State University and works with educators statewide through the Center for the Advancement of Math and Science Education (CAMSE) to strengthen STEM instruction.

Currently completing her first term in the State House, she serves on the Education and Commerce and Energy committees and holds the role of Minority Whip, with legislative work focused on protecting the Black Hills, strengthening education, and addressing other priorities important to South Dakotans.
